Why this project exists
Most of my building happens in CAD, where a corner is exactly a corner and two parts meet because I told them to. Woodworking removes that assurance. The material moves, the blade has width, and a joint is only as good as the surface it was cut from.
A jewelry box is a good way to learn that, because it is small enough to finish and small enough that every mistake is visible.
02 / Approach
How the problem was framed
The work is mostly preparation. Stock has to be milled flat and square before any joint is cut, because a corner joint inherits every error in the two faces meeting at it. From there the sequence is corners, then base, then lid, then finish, with the lid fitted last so it can be trued to the box that actually exists rather than the one that was drawn.
Clamping is its own skill: pressure holds a glue joint, but only square pressure holds a square box.

What exists now
The box was built and is in use. I have not yet assembled a proper record of it, so this page does not list species, dimensions, joint type, or finish schedule, and I would rather leave those blank than invent them.

04 / Reflection
Lessons and next steps
The transferable lesson is about tolerance stack-up, which I had only ever met as a term in a manufacturing course. In wood it is immediate and physical: four corners each a fraction out of square do not average out, they compound, and you discover it when the lid rocks.
The next box gets a cut list and a dry fit before any glue, and photographs taken during the build rather than after it.
